Vijey Kapoor,  Managing Partner

Vijey is one of the founding members of Channel Capital Partners Limited. A seasoned investment banking professional 43 years of age with over 20 years experience in the Financial Services Industry in India and the Middle East. Over the past 10 years in the Middle East he was responsible for establishing many profitable ventures.

Prior to forming Channel Capital, Vijey was the Chief Executive for the Wealth Segment (Middle East & India) for FirstRand Group (listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchanges with over US$ 100 Billion of Assets under Management) based out of Dubai, where he spent the last two years working on establishing a Joint venture focused on investing into India.  He also played a key role in assisting the establishment of the Indian business including the banking license.

Prior to that he was Managing Director – India for Forsyth Partners UK; where he responsible for raising and managing a $200 million India fund. He was also the founder member of Addax Investment Bank, Bahrain and a Senior Vice President, Emirates Financial Services (investment management and capital market arm of Emirates Bank,  which is owned by the government of Dubai).  In India he worked with GE Capital in their M&A team and prior to that worked in the area of Risk Management for Standard Chartered  and Citibank.

His other roles include –

  • Advisor, Blue Arrow Asset Management, Mauritius managing $ 150 million into India.
  • Member Advisory Board,  Almondz Global Securities, India.
  • Advisor, Commander Asset Management, London
  • Executive Member,  Panchatatwa (5 Elements), an NGO in India

He is a Fellow Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, BA in Commerce and holds the International Capital Market Qualification from the Securities Institute in UK.

 
Jayessh Bharaathan, Executive Director

Jayessh is one of the strategic think-tank members at Channel Capital Partners Limited. Born and educated in India, he has a bachelor’s degree in Commerce (taxation) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management with over 15 years industry experience in the Middle East & India backed by a verifiable track record as an Advisor handling assets on behalf of blue-chip enterprises and UHNWs  in the Middle East & Sub Continent.

Prior to joining Channel Capital, Jayessh was the Executive Director (Middle East & India) for FirstRand Private Wealth Management (ME) Ltd, based out of Dubai, where he spent the last two years working on establishing a Joint venture focused on investing into India. As  Executive Director he headed their Middle East, Sub Saharan African & Indian Subcontinent Business for Private Banking and Deal placements. The Group is listed on the Johannesburg and the Namibian Stock Exchanges and is an integrated financial services provider. The Group has US $ 130 Billion of Assets under Management (June 08) and a Profit after Tax of US $ 1.45 Billion for the year ended 30th June, 2008 with a Return on Equity (ROE) of 22%. The Group is differentiated by its de-centralized structure and owner-manager culture employing over 42,000 people.

Prior to joining FirstRand he was associated as Sr. Vice President looking after Middle East & India  with Forsyth Partners, a UK based Investment Research and Asset Management firm where he was involved in the setting up of a $ 150 million secondary market fund investing into India.

At a senior level, he has advised on critical aspects of the Middle East market, Investment opportunities & Advisory Services besides stints in Private Client Management at Citibank, ABN Amro and Emirates NBD in their Wealth Management and Financial Services business where he was instrumental in establishing Investment Services &  Affluent banking.

 
Gowrishankar Somasundaram, Advisor - Sri Lanka

Gowri is  a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK, and the Official Assessor for Membership for CIMA, London and has been involved actively in CIMA activities and also chaired a large number of committees dealing with a wide range of subjects at CIMA Sri Lanka Division.  She is an advisor and Business Partner to His Royal Highness Prince Mish’al Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Bin Abdul Aziz of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since February 2006, Gowri Shankar has been participating in business development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Region. Gowri who began working at Thomas Cook, UK, was later Group Finance Controller of the Cornels Group of Companies managing seven supermarkets after which she worked as a consultant at KPMG Ford Rhodes and Thornton. She then joined John Keells Holdings in 1995 as Manager for Corporate Finance and Management Review Division. She championed the e-commerce Strategy for the Keells Leisure sector and introduced Enterprise Risk Management to the John Keells Group.

 

Jayesh Veerkumar Soneji, Senior Vice President – Investments

Jayesh has over 19 years work experience, including last 12 years in Investment, Financial & Business Analysis and Management.  His sectorial specialization has been Real Estate.  Prior to joining Channel Capital Partners, Jayesh was associated with FirstRand Private Wealth Management, where he was the Senior Vice President - Placements and managed the placement side of the investment transactions.

Prior to that Jayesh has worked for a number of organizations including First Gulf Bank (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Tourism Development & Investment Company (Abu Dhabi, UAE), Kshitij Investment Advisory Company Ltd. (India) and Ahuja Group (India).  The role primarily  consisited of advising clients and building an asset book and managing assets . Jayesh is a qualified Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (USA), Chartered Accountant (India) & Cost & Management Accountant (India). He has also completed his Masters in Marketing Management (JBIMS, India) and B.com. (Bombay University).
